Tomorrow’s The Day!

Please excuse us while the new site is being built.

So, our new SBN site was supposed to launch today.  At noon.  Seeing as how we’re all still here, that obviously hasn’t happened.  We’re told it’ll go down tomorrow.  Minor issues, minor touchups.  Hey, let’s make sure we get this right.

Anyway, while we wait for the new site (and another AWESOME post from HydroTech that’ll really get us started over there), here’s some possible topics of interest.  Discuss amongst yourselves…

* According to reader RR, some guy was murdered in front of Top Dog last night.  That’s crazy, man.  I used to eat there at 1 AM all the time, and while people were sometimes pretty boisterous, I never felt like something like this would go down.  Crazy.

* Cal baseball lost 9-5 at UC Davis last night.  Man, the Bears have really struggled in the mid-week games this year.  They’ve got basically no pitching depth, which I’d have to imagine will come back to bite them in the postseason.

* Myles Brand says he’s going to look into the O.J. Mayo allegations.  Sucks to be an ‘SC basketball fan right now.  Personally, I don’t care, but I think at least part of the blame has to come down on the NBA and its age limit rule.  Mayo’s been essentially a professional basketball player for years, doing just enough to preserve his ‘amateur’ status, and there was no good reason he shouldn’t have been playing in the NBA last season.  None.

* Man, that Iron Man movie was pretty awesome.  At this point, I’d have to say that Robert Downey Jr’s career is pretty darn indestructible.  Try as he might, he can’t screw it up permanently.

  1. IT’S CHRISTMAS EVE!

I hope I get a pony tomorrow morning!

    Comment by TwistNHook — May 14, 2008 @ 4:12 pm

  2. Dude. You can’t say “Tomorrow’s the Day!” and have a picture of a building getting built, and not tell me that work on the SAHPC is beginning. Don’t get me wrong, there’s only one thing better than the CGB getting a new home and all that. I just thought this post would be about that one better thing.

    Comment by Berk18 — May 14, 2008 @ 5:29 pm

  3. Berk18 is right! I hope we get the SAHPC tomorrow! Fuck a pony!

  4. I don’t know who Myles Brand is. Before I google him, I’m guessing he’s some NCAA violations bigshot?

    Comment by HydroTech — May 14, 2008 @ 6:14 pm

  5. Myles Brand is the president of the NCAA. Formerly, he was the president of Indiana University, and was largely responsible for pushing Bob Knight out the door there. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

    Comment by ragnarok — May 14, 2008 @ 7:29 pm

  6. Man, Berk18, sorry about that! I totally jerked you around there. My bad!

Rest assured, when the time comes, we’ll have giant pictures of bulldozers, lumberjacks chopping down trees, and cops beating up hippies. It will be glorious, and oh so obvious.

    Oh, I can’t wait!!!!!!

    Comment by ragnarok — May 14, 2008 @ 7:33 pm

  7. Yes! 6 comments (now 7), and all but one from ourselves. Seems like a fitting last post on blogsome.

    Comment by CBKWit — May 14, 2008 @ 10:24 pm

  8. Hey, you’re new around here, CBKWit, so I’ll cut you some slack on your lack of perspective. We had this blog up for a good 8 months before we finally passed the point where we had more comments than posts. As I write this now, this will be the 2,442nd comment on our 722nd post. That’s better than a 3-to-1 ratio!

  9. Hey guys, Ima gonna head out to the store, you want anything?

    Comment by TwistNHook — May 14, 2008 @ 10:42 pm

  10. I’m probably the youngest poster here.

BTW I’m RR. This is the actual screenname I use. I decided to switch back to it.

And correction on the Top Dog story. Guy was shot and dragged himself over to the parking lot next to Top Dog where he died.

  11. Our heavenly Tedford, thank you for the blessing of Ragnarok, TwistNHook, YellowFever,CBKWit, and Hydrotech and their great knowledge of all things Cal football. As we pass on to SBN, let us not forget the joy of the blogsome Golden Blogs. Amen.

  12. Question: Why is SBN a better site for your blog than blogsome?

    Comment by Montezuma's Revenge — May 15, 2008 @ 8:17 am

  13. Twist, can you pick up some beer? You guys want to crack open a 6 pack and watch some What Not to Wear?

    Comment by CBKWit — May 15, 2008 @ 8:20 am

  14. Yeah, you guys really did the all of the leg work and I just came in when the getting was good. You should all take a well deserved vacation and leave me to deal with things for a week. I promise to raise my post rate from 1.5 to 2 posts/week while you’re gone.

    Comment by CBKWit — May 15, 2008 @ 8:22 am

  15. Best Simpsons line maybe of all time:

Lisa: Look! Robert Downey Jr. is filming a shootout with the Police!
Bart: But where are the cameras?

    Comment by CBKWit — May 15, 2008 @ 8:25 am

  16. Montezuma’s Revenge, SBN is better for a variety of reasons. The most important one is that the readers can drive content. If you had something to say, you had to make a comment on one of our already made posts.

But with SBN, you can make your own posts in a special section and then we can all discuss. We will still have our own posts up, too. So, they work together to create a big community where everybody’s voice can be heard. It’s kind of like a blog mixed with a message board.

I think that is really the biggest change. There are some technical differences from our side that make it easier to get more content up.

For example, right now if we post on Blogsome, the ENTIRE post goes up. That was moderately disconcerting at times. Some of the posts can get long. Not a bad thing at all, but it pushes all the other content down really far. We would have to space out our posts like to one a day or something so that each post would get a full chance to shine.

Now, at SBN, you can have teaser paragraphs with an easy link to click to see the whole post. That way we can have many posts posted up on the blog in the main section without pushing the earlier posts down too far. In the blog world, each inch lower a post is on the screen, the less and less likely it is to be read. So, that intro teaser paragraph idea is a big one.

There are many more and we look forward to discovering them with you!

  17. Thanks for the answer Twist.
RE: Best Simpson’s Line — Referring to government entitlements
    Grampa: “Happy birthday, Bart.”
    Bart: “Thanks, Grampa.”
Marge: “Where’d you get all the money?”
Grampa: “The government. I didn’t earn it, I don’t need it, but if they miss one payment, I’ll raise hell!”

    Comment by Montezuma\'s Revenge — May 15, 2008 @ 10:25 am

  18. This is good news. Being able to post your own thoughts concerning certain key issues like, say the QB controversy, or the BBDB defense, will be nice! Let’s get this show on the road!

P.S. Will the site look entirely different once it is up on the other website? What can we expect? If you have already answered this in previous posts you need not answer me now. I must admit I have been away for a while…

    Comment by Seth — May 15, 2008 @ 11:56 am

  19. Hey Seth, long time no see!

The site will indeed look entirely different. I’ve saved a lot of our sidebar info, but pretty much everything else is different. Check out Athletics Nation if you’re interested in a preview. It’ll look a lot like that.
