- Some legalese over at Scout.com over the Student High Performance Center. This stuff just makes my head spin, but that’s why we have two lawyers.
- A feature over at NFL.com on THA1 and the concerns scouts have about him and his attitude. Of note is this line from the article:
"Cal lost its starting quarterback to injury midway of last season and that hampered his production as a senior, Jackson said."
So maybe that thing that looked like Longshore last year really was a statue. THA1 also said that when he first got to Cal, the team was losing. Now, that was the Joe Ayoob year so we were all losing a bit of our soul watching the team, but the team did start out 5-0 and made it to 10th in the nation before the original Pete Alamar special. Maybe I’m just splitting hairs.
- A couple of notes from Bruce Feldman earlier in the week about how UCLA players like to bail on practice, and a follow up on how that doesn’t go over well with recruits. I can’t imagine why. Also, Pat Cowan appears to have won Round 5342 in his eternal battle with Ben Olson to be the starting QB for the Bruins. Finally, Feldman also reports from the Farm and says that Harbaugh has decided to switch up the practice schedule for the Cardinal. I’d make a joke, but we don’t have the axe. So moving right along…
- Mark Sanchez has won the QB battle in that other part of LA.
- Ted Miller’s Pac-10 roundup has a few tidbits from teams all over the conference, including Tedford saying that he may not decide on a starting QB until the week of the season opener against Michigan State. Take that, Spartans.
- That Arizona/ASU rivalry is heating up. Now if only our Bears could stop randomly losing to one of them each year.
- I’m sure anyone who cares has already read this by now, but Kevin Love, O.J. Mayo, and the Lopez twins are all headed for the NBA draft.
- BOOM THO! Rod Benson and Bill Simmons together? I may have to watch E:60 next week.
- Stewart Mandel is excited about Rick Neuheisel and Norm Chow at UCLA. I’m sure bookies in the greater LA area are as well.
- And finally everyone’s favorite fullback, Chris Manderino, has latched on with the Chiefs with former Cal cornerback Herman Edwards. I think Manderino’s history of toughness and the fact he didn’t even notice he had a sustained a broken jaw in practice - well, that should jibe nicely with Herm’s mantra. WHY DO THEY PLAY THE GAMES??!?!
