It’s just like what Kurt Angle used to say

It’s true.  It’s true.  We were hoping to break the news later in the week as we got closer to the switch.  However, the cat is already out of the bag.  So, might as well spill the beans.  Sometime soon (not exactly sure yet), we will switch over to the SportsBlog Nation.  The details are still being worked out.  When we know more, we will send it along here.  We look forward to seeing all of our readers on the new forum.  We definitely look forward to building a strong Cal blog community.

That said, we mean no ill will towards Kevin at The Band.  We would have been more than happy to continue along with the status quo.  However, when we were approached by SBN, it was too good an opportunity to pass up.  We wish Kevin nothing but the best in all future endeavors.

Until then, keep it locked here for more Spring Game coverage.  GO BEARS!

  1. As your first act on SBN, are you going to declare war on Bruins Nation and Conquest Chronicles? That’d be fun.

    Comment by Avinash — April 14, 2008 @ 12:28 pm

  2. Cool! I’m excited about you guys running your show on SB Nation. I especially like the SB Nation format which allows users to post their own “fanposts” (previously “diaries”). This will allow us to temper your “love affair” with “Porno Nate” . . . er “Nasty Nate.”

    Kevin Riley for Quarterback!!!

    Comment by oaktownmario — April 14, 2008 @ 12:28 pm

  3. In response to Avinash . . .

Please also declare war on the retards at Halos Heaven: the best “fans” in baseball . . . since 2003!

    Comment by oaktownmario — April 14, 2008 @ 12:31 pm

  4. God, you are so right, Mario. I often visit opposing fanblogs to get a different perspective on upcoming matchups, but as an A’s fan, Halos Haven is often unreadable.

However, as a soon-to-be member of the SBN blogging community, I must say that Halos Haven, like all SBN blogs, is a quality site with only the best writers and community.

God, wouldn’t it be awful if I were actually like that?

    Comment by ragnarok — April 14, 2008 @ 1:02 pm

  5. Also, Mario, I’m excited about the FanPosts too. I really think they allow the online Cal community to interact on a level that the post/comment paradigm of this blog just doesn’t support. This way, everyone can have a voice.

All that we ask regarding the FanPosts is that everyone tries to stick to reasoned arguments. Think Longshore sucks? Fine. Tell us why. Support your position. Otherwise, HydroTech will write 500 words about why *you* suck! ;)

    Comment by ragnarok — April 14, 2008 @ 1:08 pm

  6. Actually, Ragnarok, HydroTech already has written 500 words why Oaktown Mario sucks. That HydroTech is really a jerk!

    Comment by TwistNHook — April 14, 2008 @ 1:15 pm

  7. Awesome news guys. This will give the rest of us a forum to temper your Nasty Nate apologist ways. Brock Mansion rules!

    Comment by johno — April 14, 2008 @ 1:47 pm

  8. Not on Saturdy, he didn’t.

  9. Congrats on getting the SBN gig for Cal. I’m sure you guys will make Kevin & Eli proud. That being said, I have to agree with at least part of Avinash’s sentiment — you guys really are too cozy with those hysterics over at BN.

    Go Bears!

    Comment by SoCal Oski — April 14, 2008 @ 2:02 pm

  10. SoCal Oski, I appreciate your kind words. I assure you that we despise UCLA as much as the next guy. I think you are talking about when I broke down the foul on Anderson in the UCLA game. They linked it over there at BN and many positive things were said about this blog.

I didn’t write that post, because I wanted to get this blog linked there or to curry their favor. I wrote that post, because that was what I genuinely believed. I genuinely believed Anderson wasn’t fouled. I also genuinely believe that Shipp’s shot was illegal.

We bleed the correct shades of blue and gold here. We call it Big C, not Sons Of Westwood. It’s played staccato, not legato. We do our best to represent Cal’s interests to the fullest, but I also have to be honest about whether or not I felt Anderson was fouled. Either way, it is all in the past. I look forward to you commenting on the new site and helping us build a community as strong as BN. Hell, even stronger! GO BEARS!

    Comment by TwistNHook — April 14, 2008 @ 2:12 pm

  11. To be fair to my co-writers, I think the Longshore apologist overtones is solely from me. Quite frankly, I don’t think I even know my fellow co-writers’ opinions on Longshore.

    Comment by HydroTech — April 14, 2008 @ 2:30 pm

  12. The following is a list of global socioeconomics events, which I feel can be reasonably attributed to Nate Longshore:

    1. Battle of Hastings
    2. Eastern European sex trade.
    3. Current unrest in Kenya.
    4. 100 Years War
    5. Rise of cyberterrorism.

And heres a list of future global socioeconomic events, which should also be blamed on Longshore:

    1. World Wars IV-VII
    2. Silver Spandex becoming Fashionable
    3. The Picard Maneuver (James T. 4 life!)
    4. The presidency of Reginald Q. Bush, the love child of George W. Bush and Hilary Clinton.

So, there you go Hydro. That’s how I feel about Nate!

    Comment by TwistNHook — April 14, 2008 @ 2:37 pm

  13. I actually think the Anderson foul/no foul posts do a great job illustrating a huge difference between ourselves and Bruinsnation. Twist wrote the post after watching video, maintaining that Anderson wasn’t fouled, that Anderson knocked the ball out of bounds, and that Shipp’s shot was illegal. Bruinsnation picked up the story and wrote a post commending Twist for his honest. Of course, in their post, they neglected to address his point about the shot over the backboard, and only dealt with the things that favored ucla. As such, while Twist honestly addressed the issue, with conclusions that both favored and hurt Cal’s gripe(s) with the refs, Bruinsnation only acknowledged the parts of his argument they wanted to believe. The title of the Bruinsation post? Intellectual honesty, of course.

  14. TO ARMS!

    Comment by yellow fever — April 14, 2008 @ 2:39 pm

  15. Congrats on being offered the SBN gig! You guys deserve credit for the awesomeness of this awesome blog. But does this mean the format of the blog is going to change? Are there going to be tons of adds? I really like the unique look you have now.

    Comment by Scott M — April 14, 2008 @ 4:32 pm

  16. We are also open to corporate sponsership. The California Golden Blogs brought to you by Lowe’s: When you want to improve your stadium, think Lowe’s!

And we’ll be looking at other ways to monetize, like product placement. “Tad Smith cleared out the backfield there the same way Health Inc. Colon Cleanse clears out a colon!”

    Comment by TwistNHook — April 14, 2008 @ 4:49 pm

  17. I feel simultaneously sickened and delighted by my Tad Smith line up there. Do you see what you made me do Scott M? This blood is on your hands, too!!

    Comment by TwistNHook — April 14, 2008 @ 4:56 pm

  18. Congratulations and stuff.

    Comment by (Not Nasty) Nate — April 14, 2008 @ 7:00 pm

  19. Speaking of sponsorships, I thought it was great that the spring game was sponsored by Peterson Tractors. The only thing better would’ve been Stihl Chainsaws or ACME Hippie Strength Pepper Spray.

Oh ya, congratulations, guys. You do rock. It was only a matter of time before the world took notice.

    Comment by CalBandGreat — April 14, 2008 @ 7:07 pm

  20. Despite Nate Longshore’s best efforts to stop him, Kevin Riley was able to:

    1. Successfully force King John to sign the Magna Carta.
    2. Broker the export of several notable Czech beers.
    3. Quell multiple outbreaks of violence in the Kenyan countryside.
    4. Arrange the Glorious Revolution.
    5. Defeat telecom immunity in the latest FISA bill.

I will miss being able to post simply as “Ted” (unless of course the SBN registration system allows for it). It carries with it a sort of New Testament style gravitas, you know, Mark, Luke, John…Ted. Congrats on the promotion fellas. You’ve certainly earned it.

    Comment by Ted — April 14, 2008 @ 7:17 pm

  21. Ted,

My guess is that SBN won’t allow you to post as just “Ted”. They’ve upgraded their network to allow for one user registration across all of their sites, which means that, most likely, someone else within their network has already taken ‘Ted’. Still, we look forward to seeing ‘Ted 3:14′ or something like that posting on our new site. Thanks for the props.

    Comment by ragnarok — April 14, 2008 @ 7:39 pm

  22. Well congrats! Now I actually have to register to comment :( . And I have to use the full form of RR :(

I’d love to write for a blog but I just don’t think I have the commitment.

    Good luck anyway!
