Spring Game Photos Part I
Well, Ragnarok started off our Spring Game coverage with information and photos about the Surplus Sale. I, being much lazier, didn’t show up until well after the Surplus Sale was over. But much fun was still had. I’ll leave the more in depth analysis to Ragnarok, CBKWit, and, of course, HydroTech. But there are a lot of photos to go up about the day.
First, try to figure out which senior Quarterback was left off of the promotional materials:
Devin Bishop, not to be confused with Terry Mixon, was just warming up.
Brock Mansion, who looked fairly raw out there, was warming up alongside him. [Edit: HydroTech informs me that this might be Mike Mohamed. Damn you, excessive use of the #10 jersey!]
Runningbacks were catching passes right in front of us:
Although in one instance, there was some trouble holding on
In the heat, it was important to stay loose. Perhaps that’ll explain why this player was bicycle-kicking repeatedly while laying on his back.
When we heard Director of Football Operations Michael McHugh speak at a basketball game a month or so ago, he mentioned Tedford reading a book called "Talent Is Not Enough." Further, as HydroTech noted the other day, Nyan Boateng spoke openly about cliques in the team last year. Perhaps Tedford wants to bring the team closer together this year, because before the game, they started running in a big circle and high-fiving each other. [Edit: HydroTech informs me AGAIN! that this has been done before at a Cal spring game, most recently 2006. Hopefully, it’s a return to pre-2007 levels of glory, 2005 excepted!]
Never having been on a football team, I don’t know if this will work bring them closer together. But in the past day or so, I have been doing this with my family. It’s gonna bring us closer together! Keep it locked here for far more photos, recaps, and analysis of the Spring Game. GO BEARS!

I wonder how much that giant inflatable helmet costs. Imagine having that thing set up on your front door so you’d run outside it to work every morning? Man, that would be exciting. Of course, it would also make the rest of the day a letdown.

I’d buy a series of them to place around the office so that the fun would never end.
“What? Sounds like a fax is coming through over in the conference room. Quick! Through the giant inflatable Cal helmet!”

Hyrdro, don’t know much about the circle thing for team unity, but I was able to find the link to an old C.A.A. magazine article that discussed how Tedford encountered this very problem (cliques and whatnot) when he first arrived at Cal and implemented some things to reverse this, such as setting up “unity meetings” of eight to ten players, each in an effort to break up cliques that had formed among positions and along racial lines. Pretty interesting stuff and it seems he’s going back to these earlier techniques. Here’s the old article: http://www.alumni.berkeley.edu/Alumni/Cal_Monthly/September_2004/Waking_up_the_Bears.asp Give it a read, I think you’ll like it.
