Cal v. Oregon State Baseball
It was Saturday afternoon, Bears! A truly glorious day to be out in Bekeley, enjoying life. A truly glorious day to see our No. 7 ranked Golden Bears take on the two (2!) time defending national champions, Oregon State Beavers.
As most of you already know from seeing the highlights on ESPN and reading all the different analyses articles online, Cal vanquished the Beavers, 9-3! It sounds like an easy blowout, but it was an early struggle.
OSU quickly put a run on the board.
Cal’s starting pitcher had trouble controlling his stuff. He walked the first batter of the game, then OSU moved him over on a bunt. And the above clean single knocked him in. The SP struggled with command and was actually out of the game by the 3rd, IIRC.
But Cal quickly struck back with a bases loaded triple.
Stupid ump, getting in the way of the shot! What is refreshing about college ball is that whenever something big happens like a bases-emptying triple or a home run, pretty much the entire team comes out to celebrate at home. And they do a lot more of the cheering from the dugout. "C’mon big 4-1." "Quality hit, 4-1!" I love that stuff. I might start using that in my daily life. "Objection per statute 4-1!" "Quality ruling, Black-Robe." You don’t see enough of that in the court room these days. At least in the professional court rooms. It’s a lot more pure at the collegiate lawyer level. A lot fewer steroids, that’s for sure!
Even though Cal’s SP was gone after about 2.1, their bullpen was spectacular giving up no more runs. And OSU’s staff was nowhere near as good. Cal pounded out hit….
…after hit….

….after hit….
….to put those 9 runs on the board.
Those umps, always getting in the way of my camera angle. Ai! It was a very exciting game. There was even a play at the plate early in the game. Cal saved a run when the C blocked the plate in a big collision. The C held onto the ball and the OSU runner was out. Sweet!
CBKWit was there with me and actually had gone to see Tyson Ross pitch the day before. He’ll have more information on the baseball team up soon when he finishes his reports on the Spring Practices. Cal won the first two games of the series and goes for the sweep today at 1. GO BEARS!
