Around the Internet
Yes, it’s been a trying time for us all. But let’s look forward to the positives.
- The Rose Bowl has decided they’re going to wait until they hear from UCLA about whether to allow USC to play there next season. I don’t know, man, that would just be weird.
- Coaching news! Willingham’s going to return (and why not? I mean, Washington was awful when he got there, and at least they’re looking a little better) and the already-deposed Karl Dorrell has decided not to coach the Bruins
and hasn’t been for years, reallyin the Las Vegas Bowl. - In basketball coaching news, Lute Olson has decided to sit out the whole season. Best wishes to the guy, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t welcome this news from a competitive standpoint.
- Todd McShay’s first mock draft is out…and he has THA1 going fifteenth overall to the Eagles. I don’t know whether to be happy or cry.
- Our guys may not have been doing terribly well on the field, but at least they were doing well in the classroom. Now let’s just hope none of them gets a 10 on the Wonderlic this year.
- Hey, did you know the team gave out individual awards? I thought they stopped that stuff at like, Boy Scouts. And the Pee Wee level. Anyway, Justin Forsett was the offensive MVP and Thomas DeCoud was the defensive MVP.
- A random article about how the team’s collapse seems so much more awful because of where the team was earlier this year. And it’s true, I mean, I don’t recall anyone getting this passionate over the team sucking back when we really sucked, during the Holmoe era. Except Scott Fujita. And he has problems not getting injured at waterparks, so…maybe I’ll just stop with the non-sequitors.
- I’m not even sure why I’m bothering putting this in here, but some Washington guard is transferring.
- And Washington State’s basketball team is pretty good this year.
- A couple of season ending notes from CBS Sportsline - how there probably isn’t a bowl-bound team more disappointed that our Bears, how our once-explosive offense failed to crack the elusive 23-point barrier in any of our last six games, and an early breakdown of the Armed Forces Bowl.
- And again, sign up for our new Bowl Pick’em here, league ID 1177, password of "calbears".
- Finally, here is a *very* interesting article from Jon Wilner over at the Merc about an interaction he had with Tedford. It is a MUST READ.

Well, I don’t know what ’some Washington guard’ (Adrian Oliver) intends to do, but he’s transferring because he’s homesick and he’s from Modesto. I know the Bears recruited him at some point, but I don’t know if they’re still interested (or even have a scholarship available). Nor do I know if Oliver would be interested in the Bears.
IIRC, Modesto Christian is the same high school where both Richard Midgley and David Paris went.

Phily fan is going to love THA1 (or “Little T.O.” as I predict he will soon be called–with all the good AND bad that such a moniker implies).

Regarding Oliver . . . I saw that earlier and I think Braun should really go after him. I mean the kid is saying he wants to be at school closer to home. So what would you pick FSU or Cal? Wait Braun is the coach . . . but seriously, Braun could use a top flight guard. While I like Randle, and Knezv is a decent bench player, I don’t see any depth at the guard position.

Mario,
You’re right about our guard depth now (it sucks), but next year’s recruiting class has two highly rated guards, so Braun may be looking to add someone bigger to replace DeVon. But, really, I have no idea.

CA Pete, ironically, another player on the team has oft been called “T.O.” and it wasn’t THA1.
