I was there in 2002 (my freshman year!) when we had to hand over the Axe to Cal, so I was happy to be on the Farm to take it back. I appreciate your kind words about the stadium and all, and I'm sorry that Cal had such a stunning decline after being ranked 3rd. Enjoyed the article very much.

I could actually hear the announcer over the TV set and realized it was the same Stanford HONK handling the PA in 2005. He was a new hire, the former PA guy being a UCLA grad (shhh....). And most PA guys let the game be the show and just fill in the blanks, but this guy was really rah-rahing it up, and it was sickening. Every play he was bellowing out "Babatunde O-shin-o-WO!!!!"

Of course, the fact that Stanford was absolutely taking it to the Bruins and building a huge lead was part of that. But then the Harris-led Cardinal helped UCLA perform a ridiculously improbable comeback to win the game in OT. It really was a 4th Quarter for the ages. And by the end there, the PA guy was totally at normal volume and without the mega-motocross voice over mode. Just the facts..."Touchdown for UCLA, Olson to Everett."

Dodger's got a point, but man, he's a Dodgers fan AND a Stanford fan! I don't think I could hate him anymore if he were Nate Longshore's ankle!

Hey, appreciate all the nice words toward Stanford and all, but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that it's a Rodin garden (as in Auguste), and not a Rodan garden (as in Godzilla). Go Cardinal.

I feel a bit ashamed that I perked up a bit when it looked like Riley was going in...I don't wish injury on anybody. But it's not even about Riley anymore, it was just trying something NEW to somehow create a spark or rallying point for the team. Last night it was the emotional and mental part of the game that was lacking, not the talent or scheme.

And I felt like I was in one of those really ugly shopping malls with a Home Depot and Bed Bath & Beyond and [insert mediocre fake Mexican food restaurant of choice] instead of a stadium. It's nice, but it is going to take a lot to make it memorable.

Some blogs handle defeat better than others. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being tolerable, 1 being intolerable, The Golden Blogs are a 15, Oski Talk a 10, TBIOOTF is a 0, I’m probably a 3, and Bruins Nation is -5000. Some blogs stopped writing aft...

Yeah, it does no good to cheer a Longshore injury. Tedford won't even take him out when he's hurt. Three points in the second half against Stanford? Thirteen points in the whole game against Stanford? Stanford?

A few observations:

1. Stanford's new stadium? A shiny, rickety tin box. It's basically a set of metal bleachers bolted in place. I suppose the mushy plastic seats are nice to sit on, but I got a foot cramp trying to balance on them. Granted, the jumbotrons and press boxes were pretty swank.

2. Their stadium security personnel suck. For all I know, they might be Stanford students. They made no effort to stop Stanfurdites from wandering into the Cal student section, but as soon as fans started throwing crumpled up pieces of paper at the hecklers, they called in the Palo Alto PD to make arrests. Ridiculous.

3. As far as fans hoping for a Longshore injury, I don't think it was out of a desire to inflict pain as retribution for all the wrong he's done. Rather, I think we've come to the morose conclusion that an injury is the only thing that will make Tedford take Longshore out of the game when he's performing badly.

I, too, like the new Britney Spears album!! And although listening to it makes me feel dirty, I'll take that dirty feeling any day over the ass-kicking humiliation and taunting I will have to endure from my Stanfurd friends. Ugh.

I SO know what you mean about cheering "Go Bears???".
