GoldenBlogs Top 25 - Week 9
Just wondering, why do I catch heat for saying I didn’t want to go to New Orleans, and Rose Bowl tickets are cheaper than national championship game tickets, when everyone writes off TwistNHook as sarcastic and hilarious? (By the way, he’s not really sarcastic and hilarious. You’d know that if you met him in person.)
Anyway, hi, I’m filling in this week’s Top 25 because Ragnarok attended the game on Saturday and wasn’t able to provide us with his own ballot this week, so Hydrotech and I did the honors. Our Top 25 follows below:
| 1 | LSU | – |
| 2 | Ohio State | 4 |
| 3 | Oregon | 6 |
| 4 | Oklahoma | 1 |
| 5 | Boston College | 3 |
| 6 | Florida | 4 |
| 7 | West Virginia | 6 |
| 8 | Arizona State | 4 |
| 9 | Southern Cal | 2 |
| 10 | Virginia Tech | 6 |
| 11 | South Florida | 9 |
| 12 | Kansas | 2 |
| 13 | Missouri | 2 |
| 14 | South Carolina | 10 |
| 15 | Kentucky | 12 |
| 16 | California | 9 |
| 17 | Hawaii | 8 |
| 18 | Texas | 6 |
| 19 | Georgia | 3 |
| 20 | Michigan | 6 |
| 21 | Virginia | – |
| 22 | Auburn | 5 |
| 23 | Alabama | 3 |
| 24 | Rutgers | 2 |
| 25 | Penn State | 5 |
Dropped Out: Tennessee (#18), Cincinnati (#19), Kansas State (#23).
Just like last week, pay no attention to the deltas, because Hydrotech and I didn’t vote last week, and Ragnarok didn’t vote this week. And TwistNHook never votes. Confused yet?

Still, both Hydrotech and I had LSU at #1, over Ohio State. Neither of us is sold on Ohio State (and personally, I don’t think I’ll be completely sold on them right up until they actually win the national title, if they manage to do so) because of the general overall weakness of the Big Ten, and the fact that they don’t have any "signature wins" so far. I know you can only play who’s on your schedule, but giving them the benefit of the doubt last year didn’t seem to do them any good.
-
As for Boston College, I had them fifth, behind Oklahoma at 3 and Oregon at 4. I fully expect BC to lose this weekend to Virginia Tech and fall out of the national championship race, because I can’t see any team from the ACC as being one of the top 5 teams in the country, much less top two. Hydrotech had Oregon at 3 and BC at 4.
-
Arizona State at 8? I don’t like them much either, but undefeated is undefeated.
-
The rest of our top ten doesn’t vary dramatically from the AP or Coach’s polls, with Florida not suprisingly being the top two loss team in the country. Tebow-mania lives!
-
Kansas? Who? What? At 12? Like I said before, being undefeated at this point has to count for something, even if the furthest you’ve traveled for a game is 80 miles. And you’ve only left your home state once. That really means something, when there’s only two
Division I-AFBS teams in your home state. -
We have California ahead of Hawaii. As should everyone else. I mean, yeah, Colt Brennan would have a field day with our defense, but our Bears would have to be favored, right?….Right?
-
I managed to sneak Rutgers back into the Top 25. I voted them 20 based on their upset of South Florida, while Hydrotech left them off his ballot completely. I’m going to assume this was an egregious oversight. Next time I will overcorrect for this by voting them in the top 10.
