Opponent Roundup - Oregon
Quack.
- Well, those guys over at Ducksportsnews.com have us as their headline link on their main page, so we’ll return the favor here. They linked to our post about how Bears fans are more nervous than Ducks fans - and while I do see a large amount of angst amongst our fans, it never occurred to me to be afraid of Oregon. I mean, it’s still Dennis Dixon. Anyone else remember all the times that Michael Vick would go on his two week tears passing and declare himself a complete quarterback, then go out and complete 35% of his passes for 80 yards?
- For what it’s worth, Oregon fans profess to have no fear.
- Mike Bellotti is a simple man. I’d say more, but this article pretty much says it all already.
- Mike Bellotti also has no problem trying to take out his former assistant with everything he has. I’d imagine the feeling is mutual.
- Some writer for an Oregon newspaper posits that Bellotti is jealous of Tedford. While I wouldn’t go quite that far, it’s worth remembering that Oregon has had success without Tedford, and it’s probably more a feeling that Bellotti has been overlooked while Tedford gets all the credit for all of the quarterbacks that he’s put in the NFL. There’s also this fun tidbit.
"Also, consider that while Tedford has won loads of games, Oregon has struggled with inconsistency and had an embarrassing recruiting scandal in which it was penalized by the NCAA for breaking the rules while trying to steal a Cal recruit.
(Ducks insiders insist that Tedford turned in Oregon on that infraction, by the way.)" - And here’s a reminder that Oregon’s mascot, in contrast to those that we’ve seen the past few weeks…well, he’s kind of vicious.

Hey, just a note from a Duck fan. Canzano (whom you linked to) is one of the worst sportswriters in America and that article was absolute crap. I wouldn’t pay much attention to it, especially considering what Bellotti said in the press conference earlier in the week.
Also, the comparison of Dixon to Vick is ridiculous. That’s pretty much like saying, hey, they both can run and are back so they must be the same! A little analysis would be nice. For that, check this out: http://rbbid.blogspot.com/2007/09/excellent-cal-vs-oregon-analysis.html.
Other than that, I’m looking forward to a great game this weekend!

jtlight, thanks for weighing in. I agree the Dixon/Vick comparison was a bit flippant, but I think the larger point is that Dixon’s hot start this year shouldn’t completely erase the memory of the way he completely melted down last year either. And we thought about doing some analysis - it’s not like we can’t. I mean, have you seen this?

We like to think that’s better analysis than linking to an ESPN article, although I’m not gonna lie, we would have done that too if we could have gotten to it before they did.

I didn’t doubt you could do analysis, and I respect your guys work breaking down plays where others don’t. Also, as a Duck fan, I know we’re going to be coming back down to earth in terms of QB play sometime. Dixon will not hit his “projected” numbers. Mistakes will come, it’s just a matter of how mistakes are handled. I don’t think duck fans will feel totally comfortable until they see when that happens. But, as a duck fan also, it’s nice to have a good offensive coordinator again. Kelly has been putting the offense in much better positions to succeed than Crowton ever did, who outthought himself constantly.
Anyway, this should be a great game an I’m already pumped for the game! Saturday can’t come soon enough!

Dude, seriously, I have to give it up to the Duck mascot. That was excellent on too many levels. I give the pelvic-thrust-to-the-face smackdown a 9, no no, a 10. yeah. That said, he better not try to pull that sht on Oski, or it’s time for duck roast dinner.

The Bears Are Roaring…Into Eugene (Cal-Oregon Blog Previews)
For the first time since Tennessee, all of the big Cal football bloggers are out in force. The moods in this particular sphere range from twitching anxiety to almost delusional hubris. As I said before the game, I’m eerily calm–although I&…
