And on to the game. Well, actually before the game. Firstly, the mic-man, aka this guy:
decided to do a pre-game Roll On You Bears. WHAT?!?!!? NO, SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. CAN WE TAKE A STAND AGAINST THIS?!?! The game hadn’t even started yet! What are we rolling on from? That Cal ran out successfully from the North Tunnel? This mic-man, who otherwise was great, should spend more time washing his hair and less time incorrectly doing the Roll On You Bears chant.
As you might remember the game got off to a very fast start.
"Come back! Please! I’ll give you a pony!"
I was nervous that it’d be like the NC game last year where OSU ran back the opening kick and that was pretty much all they had. Luckily, it wasn’t like that. But for the first while it sure seemed like it. People around me who had come in late even asked if the Drum Major had caught the baton. And guess what? This Air-Bears fella is 2-2:
Sometimes it seemed like our offense couldn’t get started, like on this play where the fullback ran RIGHT into the defender.
Or this play, which I can only assume ended with an overthrown incompletion:
And even when our offense was able to start moving the ball, it seemed like random penalties would pop up at the worst time (i.e. 3rd and 1). Or the refs would go all bonkers on us and call an easy fumble an incomplete. The refs were making people feel like this:
"Ladylike? Lady no like!"
Thank God LA Tech wasn’t seemingly that good of a team. It is not often a team can play a fraction of it’s potential and still mostly dominate. DeSean didn’t do much, though.
"At this rate, they’ll give it to Brohm or McFadden."
Our normally great kicking game even had a slight set-back.
"Every kick begiiiins with Kay."
Nonetheless, I am more than satisfied with Kay’s kicking so far. He missed one, but pobody’s nerfect. He has stepped in admirably and we are very lucky to have such a great backup kicker.
People started to leave after halftime. It had quickly turned into a laugher.
"So, there are two sausages in a pan. One sausage turns to the other and says ‘wow, it sure is hot in here.’ The other sausage says "Oh My Tedford, a talking sausage!’"
But no, we stayed till the end. We know the truth. The 4th qtr, well, no matter what, it’s still ours.
"HitSquad?"
This one was no contest.
Hopefully, Arizona will be the same. I sure hope it doesn’t rain. This might be our last chance to wear wife beaters before fall finally hits.
One final note. Slight criticism of the crowd. But please, try to learn these lyrics as soon as possible:

ahahahaha. every kick begins w/ kay. priceless. great photos & recap. damn I wish I could make the trip up to memorial easier. I would never leave early…aside from the fact that I just love to watch football, I’m still geeked to sing that victory chant @ the end of games since we almost never won while I was an undergrad. Go Bears!!!

The mic-guys are AWFUL…I think we are in the same section (FF), so we have the same crap people down there telling us how to cheer for our Bears…Everyone of the regulars and Old Blues around me HATE this new feature, especially after they (mics) told us during the Tennessee game that WE (fans) were letting THEM (team) down…they need to trust that we know when to yell at the opponent’s offense, quiet down when we’re on offense, stand up and cheer when a good thing happens, etc.
Personally, I’ve been going to these games for 36 years and in all that time, I’ve always managed to root appropriately!!
