Around the Internet
Some housecleaning issues related to last week’s game and this past week’s City Council meeting…
- For those of you looking for a torrent of last week’s game, well…you can find it here. Caution - NOT WORK SAFE. I REPEAT, NOT WORK SAFE. The site, that is. Not the torrent. The torrent itself is pretty good quality and removed all the commercials, but you’ll need a DVD burner to burn the downloaded .iso image. Then you can just pop it into any old DVD player (I think - at least it worked in my PS2) and watch the game. Again, to clarify, the site linked to above is NOT WORK SAFE. The torrent file itself is fine.
- You may have noticed earlier this week one of the treehuggers managed to hack into the AirBears network and posted (how else do you explain his Internet access if he’s living in one of the trees?). I have no idea what this guy is saying. And neither do the guys at Bear Insider.
- Colorado State’s special teams coach is back on the practice field after being stretchered out after last week’s game against Colorado. Maybe he fainted knowing his coverage teams were going to have to face THA1 this week. Wait, is that tasteless?
- Notes from the Daily Cal which say that Marshawn was nice enough to text his cousin Robert Jordan with encouraging words both before the Tennessee game and at halftime - he also added he expects his other cousin, JaMarcus Russell, to get his contract with the Raiders done soon.
- Ivan Maisel notes that the Bears had eight plays that went for 20 or more yards last Saturday, which is twice the number that Tennessee allowed per game last year on average. Go Bears.
- ESPN’s SEC notebook notes that the Cal band kept playing while Xavier Mitchell was injured out on the field. I didn’t notice that, but in thinking about it, if they did keep playing before they realized the severity of the injury, I wouldn’t be worried about it. I don’t remember if the band kept playing once it became apparent it was a serious injury, but I don’t think they did. Anyway, he is all right and has been cleared to play this weekend, so that’s good news.
- Notes from Michael Silver (now at Yahoo! Sports) - nothing terribly insightful, but he talks about how great the Cal game was, and sneaks in a comment about how much Brent Musburger hated the treesitters.
- Ted Miller notes that Jake Locker had quite the debut for the Huskies last week. Maybe I’m racist, or maybe I’m conditioned, but I’ve got to be honest. When I heard that Locker was a mobile QB, I assumed he was black. So I was quite shocked when he wasn’t. He looked great, but I was just…surprised. Of course, Washington’s game against Boise State this weekend should be very interesting.
- Ted Miller’s Pac-10 notebook on ESPN.com also notes that Tom Schneider will probably be out this week as well, with Jordan Kay filling in again.
- Stewart Mandel has a message for every SEC fan who refuses to acknowledge anything but his/her favorite conference’s inherent superiority. To be fair, I don’t think we encountered too much of this, as the guys at both Vol Nation and Rocky Top Talk were very gracious (and RTT even commented about how great a game our Bears played on Saturday) and we didn’t get too many obnoxious Tennessee fan posts that were completely devoid of thought. So kudos to them.
- In other Mike Montgomery news, he rejoined Stanford as an assistant AD. So maybe THAT’s why he needed a Master’s in Physical Education.
- The USC men’s basketball team apparently had a hell of a trip down to Mexico. I kinda always thought all trips to Mexico were like this, which is why I’ve never been.
- Oregon State WR/KR Sammie Stroughter returned, but it didn’t make much of a difference.
- Rivals.com breaks down this weekend’s Pac-10 slate.
- Feldman picks for this weekend. 40-20.
- And finally, once again, enter your picks. They’re due by 6:55 EST tonight.
