Another good breakdown!

What's up with our special teams? I remember Alamar taking the blame for a big loss a ccouple of seasons back--was that the UCLA game? From all I've read, Cal's special teams unit ranking usually falls in the top three nationally, so why is this bad?

UCLA lost their star kicker Justin (?) Medlock and is left with Kai Forbath. I don't know anything about him, but all reports on the UCLA kicking game are pretty dismal. Heaven help the Bruins if our October 20th shootout comes down to field goals or PATs; they're screwed!

Hey Twist--looking at that Bruin Nation link and talk of going 11-1, etc., the post was more of them laying down their guantlet and less making a prediction. This is what they EXPECT Dorrell to pull off this year. (Do they really think $C will lose twice in a row--at home, no less!--and what about the lone loss to WSU? With the "look ahead" factor being Arizona the following week? Doubtful.) The bloggers at BN have been champing at the bit for KD to get the ax and this is one of the ways they will proclaim triumph once he's fired. They will look back at what they call their preseason "markers," note that KD failed to meet it yet again, and for that he was finally given the boot.

Also, don't be so sure that Walker will be looking too far for that inevitable head coaching offer. If Dorrell remains consistently inconsistent and posts another 7-6 (or similar) season, he's gone. If Randy Shannon does well at Miami, UCLA may take their lead and simply promote from within. Walker would be the obvious frontrunner.

...okay, back to the roundtable discussion...
