Apparently, the ATO has released some more Tenn tickets.  I just received this email:

The Athletic Ticket Office has released a handful of season ticket holds making single game tickets for the Cal vs. Tennessee Game on September 1st available - while supplies last.

Ticket purchasers should click here or go to CalBears.com as soon as possible to purchase these tickets. The ticket supply is very limited and tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis.

California : National Title Contenders?

I found this gem of a quote in, of all places, a Daily Cal article on Cal’s new women’s soccer coach, Neil McGuire.  At the end of the article, after a short bio regarding McGuire’s coaching history, he mentions his reasons for coming to Cal:

He believes the Bears are in a good position to win a national title because of the school’s academics, the conference Cal plays in and the team’s proximity to recruiting talent.

“There are only 12 to 15 schools that can win a national championship,” McGuire said. “When you put those three things combined, then we become one of the places where the top female athlete will want to go to school. Not all schools have that capability.”

Damn straight.  He’s talking about women’s soccer here, obviously, but he could be referring to practically any sport at Cal (football and basketball are different beasts, recruiting-wise).  There’s a lot of reasons for anyone, athletic or otherwise, to want to attend Cal, so with such rich natural advantages, there’s little reason for Cal not to contend with the best of the best, whatever the endeavor.  Just a little something to remember, and something to be proud of.
