In a surprising twist, a good basketball player has decided to transfer from one of the top college basketball programs to one of the worst-coached ones around.  Duke player Jamal Boykin apparently will leave Duke and transfer to Cal.  Boykin will be able to start playing for Cal in about a year.  He will have to sit out the fall 2007 semester games but will be able to play Pac-10 competition after Fall finals.  Boykin led Fairfax High School to the California state title in 2004, the alma mater of noted former Cal player Joe Shipp.  Boykin apparenty fell ill this season and has not played much for the Blue Devils.  He makes the 3rd addition to the 2007 incoming class, and easily the highest profile recruit.  Although Boykin has not officially released any statements, we can be sure he’s excited about future NIT appearances and first round NCAA Tournament exits.

I don’t think I’m very difficult to buy gifts for.  Generally, as long as I get something related to the Eagles, Nets, pro wrestling, Cal, or video games, I’m happy.  So when the girlfriend was trying to figure out what to get me for Christmas, I sent her a link to a site where she could order a #10 Cal jersey.  Now, apparently, women have more to learn about sports than I had realized.  She decided on her own that the Marshawn jersey in question was not of high enough quality and decided to go look for another one elsewhere.  This resulted in this conversation.

Her: I got your gift yesterday.  It’s all nice and wrapped up and pretty.
YF: Cool.  That sounds good.
Her: Does it matter if it’s not exactly the same?
YF: What do you mean exactly?
Her: I mean there’s some little things that are different.
YF: Like what?  Did you get a different number?  The number is important, you know.
Her: It’s not exactly the same, ok?
YF: You got a different number, didn’t you?
Her: I’m not saying.
YF: Ok, I’m going to guess a number.
Her: Wait, hold on, I need to go take a look because I don’t remember what number it was.
YF: YOU GOT A DIFFERENT NUMBER?!??!!?
Her: Maybe!
YF: Ok, you want me to tell you what number you should have gotten?
Her: Go.
YF: 10.
Her: Nope.
YF: AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHH.  Ok, let’s see.  1? (DeSean)
Her: No.
YF: Hm.  8?  (Rodgers)
Her: No.
YF: 7? (Boller)
Her: Higher.
YF: Higher…53? (Mebane?)
Her: Lower.
YF: 13? (Hughes?)
Her: Higher.
YF: God dammit just tell me the number.
Her: 32. (Arrington)
YF: (Wheels slowly spinning)…CHRIST, THAT GUY SUCKS!
Her: WHAT!!!  It was on sale!!!
YF: AND NOW YOU KNOW WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
